Gearing up for 2012

The 2012 racing season is quickly approaching, and team 73 has been working hard to prepare for it. Including a recent educational trip to the Bob Pierce Race Cars headquarters in Oakwood, Illinois, where they learned a lot about the up-and-coming technology and some of the latest chassis set-up information. The team has much of the same in store for 2012, including several Northern Late Model Racing Association races and several DART Challenge Series shows scheduled. Team 73 plans on opening their season at the Central MN Icebreaker April 19-21 where the late models will run 2 complete shows, each paying $2,000 to the winner. Other specials will include the Tony Stewart special in Fargo, ND; King of the Dirt in Fergus Falls, MN; and the John Seitz Memorial in Grand Forks, ND. The team will once again be piloting Bob Pierce Race Cars with sponsorship from Shaw Trucking, Glenwood State Bank, Midwest Grain Systems, Channel Seeds, Elite Shock Services, Trent Signs and Graphics, Steussy Diesel, DS Powersports, Prairie Lakes Coop, Midwest Machinery, and several others. In addition, Johnson Racing would like to welcome Greeley Plumbing and heating, and Lowry Insurance to the team for 2012! We are excited and thankful for these new partnerships. Two-time Wissota Late Model National Champion Zach Johnson of Kensington, MN joined Dirt Cast to talk about his 2011 season, Wissota Late Models, running some NLRA shows, the competition, running a smaller schedule, looking to run more events in 2012, selling his open motor, wanting to do more open late model events if the opportunity presents itself, maybe making another run at the national championship, spending time with his family and his plans for 2012. Johnson drives the #73 Shaw Trucking Pierce.

The 73 team is now well into the 2011 season and has seen a lot of success so far. The team has collected 6 feature wins to date including a DART Challenge Series win in Dickinson, North Dakota in June and a recent NLRA series win in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada! Some plans for this fall include a stop in Grand Forks, ND for the 5th annual John Seitz Memorial which pays $9,200 to the winner, Along with a trip to Huron, SD for the WISSOTA 100. The team will also be in Alexandria, MN to defend their home turf in October for the Fall Classic. See you at the tracks!!
